My Experience
A History of Fundraising
Since 1994 I have been raising money for charities. Back then as a volunteer I did it the hard way, organising and participating in sponsored challenge events, party nights, auctions and shaking tins.
Having decided the charity sector was for me, over the next 9 years, I worked in various marketing agencies for charities, as a campaign manager for telephone and face to face fundraising campaigns for large national charities such as Oxfam, Scope, RNLI and Cancer Research UK; and as a direct marketing freelancer for Sightsavers International and TWCAT.
In 2003 I was appointed
fundraising manager for a local Sussex charity with an annual turnover of £3
million. Here I wrote successful major bids to funders such
as: the European Social Fund, Job Centre Plus, Sussex Learning and
Skills Council, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Comic Relief, and National
Lottery Awards For All, among others.
Throughout this time period, I continued volunteering and worked with the Rwenzori Development Foundation, a charity I helped set up, in a variety of roles: Chair, Treasurer, and Trustee.
In 2006 I became a freelance fundraising consultant, using the diverse skills I have gained from marketing and in-house fundraising to assist more charities to raise the money they need.
Knowledge of charitable causes
I have a broad knowledge of many areas of charitable work and have successfully fundraised for:
